University of Southern California

Dakota Communications was contracted by the University of Southern California (USC) in June 2023 to engage and inform stakeholders and the surrounding community about the University’s expanding commitment to education, arts, economic development, and healthcare through neighborhood initiatives and community programs. USC plays a vital role in the Los Angeles area, but not many people know about the events and programs offered that can benefit the local residents, students, businesses, and other key stakeholders.

Currently, Dakota’s outreach strategy includes the development of effective messaging tailored to the surrounding communities and residents around the University Park campus and the South Los Angeles area. Targeted messages include first-hand narratives from students, community leaders, local businesses, and other community partners who have benefited from these programs, as well as the production and distribution of creative and informative program brochures, fact sheets and other physical materials. Additionally, Dakota coordinates meetings with elected officials and key stakeholders in efforts to increase awareness and exposure to the programs initiated by USC, while also connecting with faith-based organizations in order to promote trust and reliability among hard-to-reach audiences. Along with targeted messaging, Dakota also helps organize “USC Sundays,” a program in partnership with local churches and community organizations that makes space for USC to host booths in order to showcase opportunities at the university, which include: job opportunities, internships, educational programs, health initiatives, and much more.
