Karen Bass for Los Angeles Mayor
Kerman Maddox, Managing Partner of Dakota Communications, served as one of the key senior strategic advisors and chairperson of the Finance Committee for the Karen Bass for Mayor campaign. Specifically, Kerman secured key endorsements, organized earned media opportunities, developed an effective community campaign and faith-based outreach events, and coordinated ethnic media outreach activities. Additionally, Kerman made recommendations for staff hiring, recruited volunteers for GOTV efforts, and managed the finance team responsible for raising campaign funds. With an opponent spending over $100 million dollars on television and other media platforms, Bass and her team lacked the financial resources to match their spending power. Kerman worked with the media team to develop an aggressive earned media strategy to keep Mayor Bass on television, radio, and in newspapers during critical moments in the campaign.
Despite being outspent 12 to 1, the voters got it right and elected Karen Bass as Mayor by almost 90,000 votes and a 55 to 45 victory margin. After the election, Kerman helped set up and guide the Mayor's transition team, recruited people to serve on citizen boards and commissions, raised monies for the Getty House Foundation and continues to serve as a strategic advisor on a range of issues
