AltaMed Health Care
Dakota Communications successfully accomplished and surpassed the Statement of Work through an intimate and keen knowledge of the South Los Angeles community, the manner in which to reach out to the community, and the ability to bridge the communication divide between the client and Watts’ residents. By giving special focus to community and opinion leaders in the community of Watts, Dakota Communications was able to produce a genuine grassroots program that ensured a clear and concise understanding of AltaMed and their plans for the community of Watts, resulting in resounding support for the senior care center from residents, as well as elected officials.
After being immediately and categorically rejected by the community, AltaMed Health Care Service retained Dakota Communications to create a strategic outreach program that would garner broad-based support for their planned senior health care center in Watts. Against great odds, Dakota Communications built significant community support for AltaMed through a targeted, grassroots outreach effort. Dakota successfully facilitated meetings with key community/opinion leaders, met face-to-face with Watts residents, and created a public education program which included direct mail, support cards, and ethnic media outreach, resulting in unanimous approval from the Zoning Administrator. A number of community meetings were also organized and held to further educate the public about AltaMed and the proposed senior center.
